Happy Birthday Maddy!

It's a little late on the blog, but we have already celebrated Maddy's first birthday! I can't believe it's already been a whole year. So much has happened lately, I'm not sure where to begin...

Before our trip to Hawaii, Maddy was just starting to try walking. She'd take 2-3 steps before sitting down, once in awhile she'd go 6-7 steps. Usually, for everyone except Mommy. For some reason, once she saw Mommy, she'd stop walking and start crawling to me. She was also working on 4 new teeth at the same time.

Madailein also had her first haircut before we left. It wasn't really a "haircut" so much as a "little snip or two." Her hair is still short, we just trimmed her "comb-over" piece - the last remnant of the hair she was born with. Pretty much all the rest of it had fallen out and grown back. She had one piece on the top that never fell out, just got longer and in all her pictures looked like a comb-over! So, we finally got rid of it. :) And yes, I did save some of her hair... although why, Scott cannot figure out.

The flight to Hawaii was actually very good. I was worried that Maddy would be too restless and upset about not being able to move around. However, we lucked out and the flight wasn't too full. One of the attendants allowed us to move to a 3-seater and she had a whole seat to herself. She was fascinated with the digital numbers on the armrest, showing what channel the tv was on. She talked about them most of the flight, though I never really caught what was so interesting... :) She did actually sleep for part of the 5 hour flight, thankfully. The take-off and landing didn't phase her at all. I think the worst part was getting to the airport. When Scott had called the airlines they had told him we needed Maddy's birth certificate to board the plane. Well, of course we forgot it at home. We were on our way to the airport when he remembered. We called again and they said, yes, it is required. So we dashed back home and then back to the airport and barely made our flight on time - we were literally running for the gate. And, naturally, NO ONE asked for her birth certificate. We were told later by a gate attendant that it's only asked for when they think someone is trying to pass off their kid as under 2. Oh, we were mad. I won't repeat our thoughts on the matter, though.

In any case, we got there, including our luggage, thankfully. The trip was fabulous. However, I will have to continue this later as it is almost midnight and I need to work tomorrow! Sorry, to be continued...

And she's off!

Maddy took her official first steps yesterday!!! She took one at daycare and then several more at home with us! It was very exciting!!! It was especially fun because Scott and I were not the only witnesses. Some friends from Ashland were passing through town on their way to Seattle and were all there to see her walk! I'll put up some pictures of their visit later. Maddy had a great time with everyone. She even let Jake hold her for a second (she has been pretty clingy lately to mommy and daddy). Anyway, just wanted to update. We have new pictures that I will try to get up before our trip to Hawaii on the 27th. :)

Bam!

Well, it finally happened... Madailein fell off the bed yesterday. :(

She was a champ, though. She cried for a few minutes into her blankie while I held her. But then we walked in front of a mirror and she caught a glimpse of her reflection. If I haven't mentioned it before, Maddy LOVES her reflection. If we put her in front of the long mirror in the bedroom, she will lean over and kiss herself! :) So anyway, she saw her reflection and pretty much forgot about the bump on the head. She's just amazing. :)

Happy-Butt!

Madailein will sometimes do what I call her "happy-butt" when she is really happy about something. Like when I come home and pick her up, sometimes she'll wrap one arm around my neck and wiggle her butt back and forth. Or she'll be crawling away from Daddy and he'll pull her legs back so she falls on her tummy. She thinks that's funny and she'll just lay there for a second and wiggle her little butt back and forth - then she'll get up and try to crawl away again. :) It's very cute.

Speaking of her little butt, we went in to check on her last weekend and found her sleeping like this:

Scott and I were cracking up and, of course, it eventually woke her up. But it was so cute!

In other news, she is moving closer to walking... she's getting more and more comfortable standing up and has started trying to let go of whatever she is holding on to while she is standing. She doesn't last for long and will fall on her tush or grab whatever she had been holding again. but she's getting there. Mommy is really not ready for that!

Finally, Daddy came up with a new nick-name for Madailein tonight: Chewy. She has been making this sound with the back of her throat that sounds just like Chewbacca! I tried to warn her that she was being thrown in with a big, hairy alien, but she really didn't care... :)

Bye-Bye!

This week, miss Madailein started waiving "bye-bye!" :) You kind of have to get her started, but then she'll do it on her own... :)

Madailein also tried cauliflower tonight. She really liked it! She was very upset with me when I ran out. Hopefully this continues (the liking veggies thing) and maybe it will rub off on Daddy... Hey, I can dream, can't I??

9 Months!

Quick update - Madailein is now 9 months old! She has started to crawl just in the last couple weeks. She took a day or so to get it right. At first she used one foot and one knee. She's gotten pretty good at it now and is getting faster. She is also trying very hard to pull herself up to a standing position. She can almost do it by herself... I'm so not ready for that!

Maddy is also starting to eat more solid food. She likes chicken and hamburger meat. She loved cantaloupe! She is good at eating small pieces that she can pick up with her fingers. She is not so great with the chunky baby food yet. She gags on the small pieces of veggies or whatever is in there. I think because she's still used to smooth baby food and just doesn't expect the chewy pieces to be there. She'll catch on eventually. :) Her third tooth has finally broken through, so that will help her a little too.

She is doing really well in her new room (freshly painted a beautiful lavender color). She has actually been sleeping better in there than she did in our room! I think we were waking her up. She still has nights where she wakes up, but they're farther apart and usually only one time a night (versus every 2 hours!).

Well, it's late. Until next time, here are a few pics...

How does the saying go?

A picture says 1000 words? If anyone still checks this, Thanks! :) I didn't realize it had been so long. We've been pretty busy... finding computer time has been difficult. But, here are a bunch of pictures to make up for it! Sorry for the lack on commentary, but it's late. :)

These are from the Tulip Festival in Woodburn. They have it every year, but, since it took us 4 - yes 4 - hours to get there (a normally 1 hour drive, tops) I'm not sure we'll go again until the next kid comes around...

*They had a little helicopter that flew around the field giving rides to people at the festival. Maddy did NOT like the helicopter and would get scared every time it passed us.

These are some random pics that I just really like...

Taking a walk around our new neighborhood...

Meeting the local firemen at Starbucks...

Kickin' it Aggie-Style with Daddy

Just being a silly girl :)

That's it for now. I'll try to do more later!
